Changes to Hathern surgery/dispensary opening
Following a review of GP clinic times at Hathern, we would like to inform patients of some changes proposed from February 2019. We are planning to extend our afternoon opening times on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to open both reception and the dispensary from 14:30-18:30. This will particularly benefit patients requiring medication after seeing a GP as you will be able to collect your medicine from the dispensary at the time of your appointment.
Due to the extended opening times and GP/nurse clinics on these days, we are planning to close Hathern surgery at 13:00 for the remainder of the afternoon on Tuesday and Thursday when our dispensers will be dealing with ensuring your prescription request is completed promptly and also spend time preparing dosette boxes for our more vulnerable patients. During these afternoons GP appointments will be available at our Loughborough surgery and the telephone lines open for reception and prescription queries.
The changes will mean that patients on routine medication will be able to drop off and pick up their prescriptions within the two working day turnaround. You can also ask our dispensers about the ‘automatic prescription service’ which means that your repeat prescriptions are prepared ready for you to collect on a fixed date each month without the need for 2 visits to the surgery.
Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review
The IMMDS Review is investigating three medical interventions where patients have reported problems and suffered serious harm.
The Review wishes to ensure that any individual or family affected by these three interventions is aware of its work and has the opportunity to make contact or provide evidence.
- Pelvic mesh implants
- Primodos and hormonal pregnancy tests
- Sodium valproate* and valproate products including Epilim and Depakote
If you have personal experiences arising from any of the above, an independent review, commissioned by the Government, wants to hear from you.
* The Review is specifically interested in hearing from women who have taken sodium valproate while being of child-bearing age. Women prescribed Epilim or Depakote (sodium valproate) should not stop their treatment unless told to do so by their GP or healthcare professional.

SystmOne Migration Updates
The practice migration to our new clinical system on the 11.4.18 is fast approaching. On the 27.3.18 the EMIS 'Patient Online' service will be deactivated along with all of the active online accounts. There will be a temporary period where online services will not be available, however we will begin accepting applications for the new 'SystmOnline' service from the 16.4.18.
If you wish to reapply for an online account, please ask at reception after the 16.4.18 to request an application form (don't forget to bring photo ID with you). We appreciate your continued patience during this transitional phase and are confident that this will prove to be a beneficial move for both the practice and it's patients.
Access to the EMIS 'Patient Access' Online service will end from today, please CLICK HERE to review our previous update to learn when and how to register for the new SystmOnline service once our migration is complete.
From the 26th March to 20th April clinics will be reduced to deal with urgent appointments only and will initially be triaged by the duty doctor. For non-urgent, routine appointments you will be asked to contact the surgery after the 20.4.18 when appointment booking will be available on the new clinical system.
You will note that we have updated our practice telephone greeting to include this information to notify callers that we are dealing with urgent queries only during this period.
Please note that the Hathern Dispensary will be closed on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th April. If you require a repeat prescription around this period, please ensure that you submit your request with sufficient time for it to be processed prior to our closure. Please note that we will be open for collection only on these two days. Thank you.
Last week week we successfully migrated over to SystmOne and are now operating from this new clinical system. We sincerely thank you for your understanding and patience during our migration period and hope that this will continue as our staff take time to acclimatise to the new changes and whilst we complete the final parts of our migration.
Access to pre-bookable appointments and registration for SystmOnline will become available from 20.4.18. If you were previously registered for online access and wish to do so again, you will need to request a SystmOne account at reception, please ensure that you bring photographic identification for this.
Practice List Closure/Saturday morning clinics update
For a temporary period of six months we regret that we will not be accepting new patients at our practices at Maxwell Drive, Loughborough and Cross Street, Hathern.
We are currently remodelling our services and it is with regret that whilst we do this we will not be able to register new patients at either of our practices from 16 October 2017.
In addition, regretfully we will no longer be able to provide clinics on a Saturday morning. West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (responsible for arranging services in practices) is currently engaging with patients to consider how to provide additional clinics in General Practices in the area longer term.
You will find information on how to register at other local surgeries, who are accepting patients, by visiting the NHS Choices website:
If you have any queries please ask at our reception.
LRI NEW Emergency Department Details
The new Emergency Department (ED) at Leicester Royal Infirmary opened on Wednesday 26th April, there have been changes to the access points for both Adult and Children's Emergency Departments. Please see the following links for details regarding access to the service you require and a site map highlighting the new Emergency Department layout.
With Dr Shivram and Ann Ball in post we are reviewing the various ways patients are able to access a health professional and we are extending our use of telephone triage for urgent appointments. The doctor will require some information of your symptoms so that they can assess the urgency and prioritise the appointment to ensure emergencies are dealt with before other book on the day requests. A range of options will be provided by the GP, including advice over the telephone, signposting you to another health professional or booking patients directly into an appointment slot. Pre-bookable appointments with the GP of your choice remain available, subject to the days your preferred GP works. You may notice that Dr Saund is reducing his sessions as our new clinicians increase their availability.
NHS Health Checks
We are now in the process of inviting patients for their FREE NHS Health Check. If you have received an invitation letter, please contact the surgery to arrange your appointment. For more information and to find out if you are eligible, please CLICK HERE
Patient Group Awards
Dishley Grange patient group has been awarded the best entry in the 2015 'Active Community Group award'. These sport and physical activity awards are highly coveted and cover the whole of Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland over six main categories of award. Our scheme was judged to have the greatest positive impact on health and well-being for those aged 65 and over. For the PG and the Health Walk Group to carry this off is some achievement. Well done to all concerned!
Our patient group also triumphed at the 2015 Charnwood Sports Awards as winners of the "Community Sport/Physical Activity Project" category for the Health Walks. Two awards in one year, well done to all involved! Click here to read about the award on the Loughborough Echo Website.
Friends and Family Test
The new friend and family test is now available and the surgery welcomes your feedback. Please see the home page for further information. Paper copies are also available in the practice, please ask at reception for further details.
Named Accountable GP
From April 2015, it is a national requirement that all patients are allocated and notified of a named GP who will have overall responsibility for the care and support that the surgery provides. Your named GP will be the usual GP noted on your medical record. This does not prevent you from seeing any GP in the practice as you currently do. If you wish to confirm your named GP, please contact reception.
